YOUTH DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR APPOINTED
Luton Town have appointed local businessmen Bob Curson as the Board's representative for Youth Development.
Curson, who is a life-long Luton fan, will work closely with new Director of Youth, Chris Cummins, and Hatters boss Kevin Blackwell in searching for young talent around the surrounding areas of Luton.
Curson worked for Luton-based company SKF for many years before working at V.S. Engineering and later going on to establish a successful and global automation business, Comau Estil.
Curson's appointment is part of the Advisory Boards that are to be established at Kenilworth Road and joins Marc Bignell, who has been appointed as Business Development Director.
Curson's is excited by the task that lies ahead of him.
"This is an exciting project for me," said Curson. "It's not just coming to work for Luton Town, but it's also about coming to work for the community.
"I know from the past we have actually produced a lot of good youngsters, but there have been a lot more that have escaped the net and I feel that I can help in that way.
"There are lots of kids out in the surrounding areas of Luton that don't get the opportunity.
"Hopefully I can come in and it will help us scour every area around the town to find those people and give them the opportunity that they may not have had if we had not set this system up."
Curson's appointment is part of some major developments for Luton's youth department, with the Club planning to go out to the local community and set up football coaching schools for local teams.
"I am a good communicator. I am good with people and I think time will tell if the job is successful or not. However, I feel I can put a lot into it. I have got a lot of experience.
"What we will be looking to do is get the managers of these Sunday League teams together and once we can do that then we can spread the gospel across the area.
"If you make other people responsible in various areas then you are using their eyes. I will not be looking at everybody. The idea is that we may set up a committee of local people and they will be looking at their youngsters."
Blackwell says that Curson's appointment is a vital part of what he wants to achieve in local football.
The Hatters boss said: "Bob brings a lot of credibility to the position. His knowledge and his enthusiasm are infectious and his management skills are vital for this role and what we are looking for.
"It is important that we have a connection with the Board and that they understand what is happening at Youth Team level.
"Luton need a major a representative at this level. We need someone who will go to FA meetings about Youth and I am sure Bob will make a big impact"
The Club are now in talks with a number of people to fill the two vacant areas of the Advisory Board - Community Development Director and Supporter Development Representative.
Chief Executive John Mitchell said: "Bob's appointment fits in with our overall plan for developing the whole business.
"We have confirmed Marc Bignell's appointment as Business Development Director and we are talking to other people to fill the other roles."
