The Hatters saw off Hinckley United at the second attempt in the FA Trophy to set up a last 16 tie with Kidderminster Harriers.

In front of the lowest post-war crowd at Kenilworth Road of 1,004 the Town took the lead in the 14th minute when Daniel Bragoli netted an own goal before Amari Morgan-Smith doubled the lead a minute before the break.

But Hinckley, of the Blue Square Bet North had their chances and the Hatters had goalkeeper Mark Tyler and some indifferent finishing to thank for keeping the visitors off the scoresheet.

The Knitters continued to press in the second half but the Hatters killed the tie off on 65 minutes when Stuart Fleetwood finished well.

Both sides created and spurned chances after that strike but in the end it was the Town who were left celebrating come the final whistle to ensure their progression in the competition.

The Town started showing two changes from last week's game at Hinckley, and 10 in total following Saturday's 3-3 draw with Southport in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

John Paul Kissock was the sole survivor of the side that drew at the weekend. 17-year-old midfielder Jerry Nash makes his full debut in midfield whilst Morgan-Smith started in attack. The Town bench included two 16-year-olds including Leeroy Magaurshe.

In an extremely low key opening the Town began on top and it wasn't until the ninth minute that they had a shot to show for their dominance when Curtis Osano drove a shot wide of the target from the edge of the penalty area.

Hinckley, who had drew 5-5 with Stalybridge on Saturday (recovering from 4-0 down to lead 5-4 at one point), came close to breaking the deadlock a minute later when Danny Newton headed wide following a deep right cross.

But on 14 minutes it was the Hatters that took lead. After conceding such an unlucky own goal at Southport at the weekend this time the Town benefitted from the generosity of Knitters midfielder Bragoli who lashed home past his own goal goalkeeper when unchallenged from six yards after Alex Lacey's header from a right-wing corner had caused confusion in the visitors' box.

Robbie Willmott drove a low shot wide three minutes later as the Town looked for a quick-fire double but it was the visitors who upped the ante after that effort.

Craig Farrell stole in behind the Hatters defence to draw a save from Tyler on 19 minutes before the same man forced the Town stopper into an even better save nine minutes later. Andre Gray slid a perfect ball into the Knitters' striker whose low shot from 12yards was well blocked by a sprawling save from the goalkeeper.

That near miss woke the Town up as they pushed for a second goal before the break. Stuart Fleetwood teed up Morgan-Smith on 37 minutes only for the striker to see a shot blocked by the legs of a Hinckley defender after he'd twisted and turned in the penalty area to make space for the shot.

A header from Paul Lister was saved comfortably by Tyler on 40 minutes before Gray spurned the chance of the game for the visitors three minutes later. Put through with time on his side and Tyler to beat, the 19-goal striker's first touch was awry and it allowed the Town goalkeeper to rush out and beat him to the ball and with that the chance had gone.

And that miss proved costly a minute before the break when the Town doubled their lead. Morgan-Smith outmuscled his man down the right and surged into the area and instead of squaring to a team-mate for what would have been a simple tap-in, the striker coolly slotted the ball past Hinds for his 10th goal of the campaign.

By now the Hatters were sensing blood and a minute later Fleetwood sent Willmott dashing through on goal but, with the ball on his left side the winger could only drag a shot wide of the target.

Back came the visitors though, and the impressive Gray teed up Farrell once more but, after cutting inside the challenge of Lacey, Tyler was there to smother the danger at Farrell's feet, allowing the Town to hold a comfortable half-time advantage.

Hinckley continued to create chances immediately after the restart with Tyler twice coming to the Town's rescue stopping two gilt-edged efforts from Gray. Three minutes into the second half the striker spurned a one-on-one chance having been played through by Jake Holt that Tyler blocked bravely before the Hatters keeper palmed away a firm shot from the same man a minute later.

The Town came close to adding to the tally as the visitors pressed forward and it should have been 3-0 on 62 minutes when Ed Asafu-Adjaye somehow saw a shot cleared off the line by Mark Dudley when meeting Fleetwood's pass across goal following a short corner routine orchestrated by Kissock.

Two minutes later the visitors spurned yet another great chance to get on the scoresheet when right-back Sam Belcher blasted high and wide when left alone in the penalty area with an unmarked team-mate screaming for a cut-back.

But once more Hinckley's failure to finish in front of goal cost them as the Hatters punished them with a third goal to seal victory. Kissock did brilliantly to flick a pass into the path of Colby McAdams despite being upended by a Hinckley challenge. After the referee had done well to play advantage, McAdams found Fleetwood in the box and after cutting inside onto his right foot the striker finished really well to register his eighth goal of the season.

By now the Town were in well control and Kissock and 16-year-old substitute Charlie Smith came close to making it 4-0 with efforts from distance.

Tyler was named man-of-the-match for his efforts for keeping out the Knitters, and he had the last word by stopping a Mark Byrne effort to deny the visitors a consolation two minutes from time to ensure a comfortable victory and passage into the last 16 of the Trophy for the Town.

It's a case of one down and three to go at Kenilworth Road this week. Make sure you're here on Wednesday when Mansfield Town visit Kenilworth Road.

See you then.

Luton Town 3 (Bragoli (og) 14, Morgan-Smith 44, Fleetwood 65)

Hinckley United 0

FULL-TIME whistleAll over here and the Town are through with a comfortable victory. Full report, reaction and photographs to follow.

90 mins - Into the last minute now, three added minutes to be played.

88 mins - Two minutes left but despite being three goals behind Hinckley are still looking for a goal and Tyler again stops a goal-bound effort from Byrne from 15 yards.

85 mins - Five minutes left here.

83 mins - Chance for the Town as Smith does really well to slalom inside two men and gets to the edge of the box before firing over.

81 mins SubstituteThird and final sub for the Hatters: 17-year-old Brett Longden on for Fleetwood.

80 mins - Half a chance for Hinckley to make it 3-1 as Tom Byrne heads over following a left-wing corner.

75 mins - By the way 1,004 inside Kenilworth Road tonight including 81 from Hinckley. That's our lowest post-war crowd.

74 mins SubstituteSecond change for the Town as 16-year-old Charlie Smith comes on for his debut. On for Colby McAdams.

71 mins - A whisker from 4-0 as Willmott squares to Kissock who lets fly from the edge of the box. His effort isn't far away.

65 mins GOAL! GOAL! TOWN 3-0 Hinckley (Stuart Fleetwood) For the second time tonight the Town punish Hinckley for another miss. Referee Whitton plays a good advantage as Kissock is poleaxed by Flanagan on the halfway line as he plays a pass to McAdams who in turn feeds STUART FLEETWOOD who finishes with aplomb from the left-hand edge of the box. Surely game over.

64 mins - Oh dear, Hinckley again miss a great chance to make it 2-1 as Sam Belcher finds himself in the Town box. He's got substitute Tom Byrne screaming for a cut-back which would have resulted in a simply tap in but ignoring him, Belcher blasts hapless high and wide.

62 mins - Oh, chance for the Hatters and it somehow remains 2-0. A short corner is worked to Kissock who finds Fleetwood who in turn dances along the byeline to square for Asafu-Adjaye but with the goal at his mercy the defender's shot is blocked off the line by Mark Dudley.

60 mins - Hour gone, the Town pushing for third as Fleetwood races down the right and cuts the ball back for Woolley who hits a shot wide.

57 mins - Half a sniff for the Hatters as Woolley nods a McAdams' cross from the left just wide.

57 mins - The ball's in the Town net but it's not going to count as Farrell is offside as he tucks it past Tyler.

49 mins - And another stop from Tyler again getting a hand to a firm effort from Gray from the right-hand side of the area.

48 mins - Early chance for Hinckley to get back in this but the Hatters have Tyler to thank once more to deny another one-v-one effort from Gray following a defence splitting pass.

46 mins whistleSubstitute We're off for the second half as Hinckley get us away again and there's a change for the Town as goalscorer Amari Morgan-Smith is replaced by Jake Woolley.

HALF-TIME whistleAnd that's the break...the Town in control here. Check back in 15 minutes for the second half.

45 mins + 1 - Chance for Hinckley to reduce arrears as Gray does well again to feed Farrell but after cutting inside his man he can't get a shot away and Tyler smothers the danger.

45 mins - Almost a chance for 3-0 as Fleetwood puts Robbie Willmott away but the winger can't finish when faced with Hinds. An extra minute to be played...

44 mins GOAL! GOAL! TOWN 2-0 Hinckley (Amari Morgan-Smith) - Simple one this as the Town double their lead. AMARI MORGAN-SMITH outmuscles his man down the right, bursts into the box when faced with the Hinckley keeper and the option to square to two team-mates the Hatters frontman cooly slots the ball home for his 10th goal of the season.

43 mins - Great, great chance for 1-1 as Gray is through on goal with just Tyler to beat. However, his first touch is really bad and allows the Town keeper to get a glove to the ball and the chance is gone.

40 mins - Hinckley looking a threat on the break with Gray looking dangerous in particular. They win a right-wing corner that Paul Lister gets up the meet and his header is comfortable for Mark Tyler to catch.

37 mins - ...and they almost have a chance as Fleetwood feeds Morgan-Smith in the box but after some twisting and turning the striker sees a shot blocked by a Hinckley defender.

35 mins - 10 minutes to the break, still the Hatters lead here. Probing for a second...

28 mins - Big chance for Hinckley and the Town have Mark Tyler to thank for a sprawling save to stop Farrell's shot after the striker had been played through on goal by Gray. But the Hatters keeper spread himself superbly. Still 1-0.

26 mins - Wild left-foot shot off target from Morgan-Smith after he'd done the hard work to create some room for himself inside the penalty area.

25 mins - Slight concern for John Paul Kissock who gets treatment for a head wound. He comes back on sporting some strapping around his head. Reminds me of a certain Steve Foster.

21 mins - Another opportunity for the Town as Kissock and McAdams combine to tee-up Stuart Fleetwood to drive a shot at goal from the edge of the area that Denham Hinds gets behind.

19 mins - Decent chance for the Knitters to level as Craig Farrell gets in behind the Town defence. He looks to square in the box to the unmarked Andre Gray but Mark Tyler cuts out  the cross with a routine save.

17 mins - Hatters pressing for a second goal here and as Hinckley again back off the Town as they come forward Robbie Willmott flashes a low shot wide.

14 mins GOAL! GOAL! TOWN 1-0 Hinckley (Daniel Bragoli own goal) - The Hatters were cursing an own goal on Saturday but tonight they are celebrating one as a bizarre goal puts the Town ahead. Alex Lacey's header from a right-wing corner causes confusion in the box and under a little bit of pressure but nothing much DANIEL BRAGOLI thumps the ball past his own keeper. A fine finish.

10 mins - Back come Hinckley with half a sniff, Danny Newton rising to head wide of the target following a right-wing cross. Nothing to worry about.

9 mins - First decent effort at goal as the Hatters moven forward with Curtis Osano but as the Hinckley defence back off the right-back whacks a right-foot effort just wide.

8 mins - We've had seven minutes and while the Town are on top there's not a lot to report. Bar three offsides (2-1 Luton so far).

3 mins- The Hatters are lining up with O'Donnell left-back, Osano right-back, Asafu-Adjaye and Lacey centre halves, Nash and Kissock in central midfield, McAdams on the right wing, Willmott on the left wing with Morgan-Smith and Fleetwood in attack.
