Calvin Andrew's diving header early in the second-half gave Luton back-to-back wins in League One for the first time this season.

The Hatters striker pounced with a brave winner in a game that Luton dominated from start to finish.

It's a win that doesn't lift Luton out of the relegation places of League One, but does a lot to enhance their chances of beating the drop.

Luton should have won by a bigger margin, but that wouldn't have bothered Kevin Blackwell and Hatters fans as the players turned home another splendid performance.

It sets the Hatters up nicely for Sunday's FA Cup Third Round tie with Liverpool, and extends Luton's impressive form to just one defeat in 13 games.

Yeovil's miserable afternoon was highlighted by the late dismissal of Paul Warne for a second bookable offence.

Hatters boss Kevin Blackwell went into the game naming the same side that recorded a first away win of the season at Port Vale on Saturday.

That meant Luton kept faith with the 4-4-2 formation as Drew Talbot and Andrew continued in attack.

There were some notable changes amongst the substitutes with Steve Robinson and Richard Jackson returning to the 16-man squad.

Yeovil left out Lloyd Owusu and had no Lee Peltier, who returned to Liverpool following his six-month loan spell.

Luton enjoyed much of the early running and Andrew almost gave the Hatters a dream start when he linked up with Talbot to hit a half volley that stung the gloves of Yeovil goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall.

Luton were creating all the early chances and on four minutes, Talbot's clever work down the flank saw the striker pull back a cross for Dave Edwards, who had his effort blocked by the Yeovil defence.

The Hatters continued to bombard the Yeovil goal and a well worked corner almost saw them break the deadlock on 12 minutes when Darren Currie picked out the late run from Matthew Spring, whose header was whipped off the line by Gary Dempsey.

Yeovil had rarely threatened, but did look dangerous on the break. They almost took advantage a minute later of a poor Dean Brill clearance, but the Luton goalkeeper redeemed himself with an excellent save from Marcus Stewart.

The visitors were starting to pose more danger to the Hatters and on 25 minutes Paul Warne had a left-footed shot that deflected narrowly the wrong side of Brill's right post.

Three minutes later, Luton created their best chance of the game and were desperately unlucky not to have taken the lead when David Bell's ball picked out Talbot, who cut inside his marker a fired an acute angle shot onto the underside of the crossbar.

On 40 minutes, Andrew displayed great control of the ball to almost open the scoring in spectacular style. The Hatters youngster flicked up a pass from Alan Goodall to unleashed a blistering volley that, to Yeovil's relief, flew straight to goalkeeper Mildenhall.

Luton finished the half the strong side and were again unfortunate not to have taken the lead on 41 minutes when, after Edwards had a shot blocked, Currie smashed the loose ball straight at Mildenhall.

AT HALF TIME: LUTON 0 V 0 YEOVIL

Luton started the second-half in a similar fashion to the way they ended the first and were quick to put Yeovil on the back foot.

And they instantly made their pressure tell, breaking the deadlock just three minutes after the restart as Bell's first time cross from the right was met by Andrew's brave diving header from eight-yards out.

It could have easily been 2-0 moments later, and in truth Currie should have done better when he failed to direct a pull back pass from Talbot, instead firing straight into the path of Mildenhall.

Yeovil brought on Owusu just after the hour mark and the former Brentford man almost made an immediate impact but his strike from ten yards, after linking up with Stewart, was blocked by the Hatters defence.

Talbot was looking a handful for the Yeovil defence and on 70 minutes the striker got beyond the Glovers defence, took a bouncing ball in his stride, and drilled a right-footed strike inches wide.

Two minutes later and it was Talbot again that almost found a second for the Hatters, but on this occasion his effort took a deflection off a Yeovil defender, looping over the head of Mildenhall, only to be cleared off the line by Matt Rose.

It seemed as if a second would arrive eventually with the Hatter looking slick going forward and Luton supporters thought that had arrived on 78 minutes when Mildenhall pushed Edwards' header onto a post and saw the rebound roll straight back into his arms.

But an amazing miss from Andrew on 86 minutes summed up Luton's luck in their search for a second goal as the striker somehow sent an effort over the crossbar from just two yards out, after Currie's free-kick had eluded everyone inside the area.

Yeovil's afternoon ended with Warne dismissed for a second yellow card after a clumsy challenge on Edwards.
