Despite scoring the first goal of the game Luton Town confirmed their relegation from League One in this afternoon's 2-1 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Hatters took the lead in the 49th minute when a Sol Davis free kick gave Sam Parkin the space to round the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.

Ian Westlake scored Brighton's first less than a minute later before Glenn Murray added the second on 59 minutes.

Luton Town named an unchanged starting line-up for this afternoon's game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, first year scholar Harry Hogarth, has been given squad number 39 and is on the bench following an ankle injury to George Beavan.

John Dixon replaces Nicky Forster to make his full debut for Brighton.

Brighton had the first real chance of the game when Dean Brill palmed a Murray cross into the path of Westlake who shot straight into the side netting in the 9th minute.

The Hatters had their opportunity to take the lead on 11 minutes when, after Don Hutchison had his shot blocked, captain Keith Keane pushed the rebound over the crossbar.

Brill made an impressive save in the 29th minute when a free-kick from Dean Cox hit Sol Davis' head to turn the ball goalwards.

Again Luton should have taken the lead when a well placed cross from Ed Asafu-Adjaye found Sam Parkin in the area.

However, Parkin turned and shot the ball wide.

HALF TIME: Luton 0 - 0 Brighton

The second half saw Luton go straight on the attack and a David free kick gave the Hatters the lead they were looking for.

On 49 minutes Davis placed the ball into the area, Calvin Andrew stepped up forcing Michel Kuipers to come out.

Parkin was determined to make the most of this opportunity and ran in before moving the ball around the keeper and into the net.

However, Brighton were quick to respond and scored theirs less than a minute later, when, a cross from Cox saw Westlake loop the ball over Brill.

The Seagulls scored their second on 59 minutes after another well placed cross from Cox found the head of Murray who put the ball through the out stretched arms of keeper Brill and into the goal.
