Luton stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a battling point against Oldham at Boundary Park.

Jaroslaw Fojut was on target for the second successive game as his header had cancelled out an opener, scored by Craig Davies two minutes earlier.

The Polish defender rose majestically in the Oldham penalty area to latch onto a David Bell's free-kick and notch his second Luton goal of the season just after the half-hour mark.

But Luton was once again thankful to some excellent work from goalkeeper Dean Brill, who looked solid throughout making a number of important save.

Oldham certainly enjoyed the majority of the possession, but for all their efforts, they couldn't force a winner despite bombarding the Luton penalty area late on.

Luton went into the game boosted by the return of veteran striker Paul Furlong, who had been missing for the Hatters because of a hamstring injury.

His availability saw him partner Calvin Andrew up front, as Kevin Blackwell kept faith with a more familiar 4-4-2 formation that has been proving effective in recent weeks.

But the Hatters were without the services of Matthew Spring and Don Hutchison in midfielder so both Steve Robinson and loan man Marc Wilson returned to the starting line-up.

Oldham, unbeaten in their last six encounters, made two changes from the side that defeated Crewe at the weekend with Neal Trotman and Ryan Bertrand returning to the Latics line-up.

The home-side made a promising start and within the opening two minutes, Luton's defence looked shaky as Lee Hughes and Craig Davies both had efforts blocked.

But after weathering the early storm, Luton had their own opportunity to take the lead when a long ball forward was chased down by Andrew who, after beating goalkeeper Mark Crossley, sent over a cross into the area, but Dave Edwards couldn't force a shot into the Oldham net.

Andrew was then involved in a nasty looking challenge on Neal Eardley on five minutes as he sent the Oldham striker flying with a late challenge.

The young Hatters striker was lucky to stay on the field as strong protests from the Oldham faithful felt he should have seen red.

Oldham bossed the possession, but despite carving out some half chances, the deadlock never really looked as if it would be broken.

Half chances continued to be created by Oldham, but solid defending from Luton kept the home side at bay.

Gary McDonald had a sniff at goal on 27 minutes as the midfielder raced onto a through ball that cut open the Luton defence. However, the former Kilmarnock man was denied by some solid defending from Chris Coyne and Fojut.

But despite Oldham rarely threatening, it was little surprise when they took the lead just after the half-hour mark.

The Latics had dominated proceedings and went in front when Chris Taylor slipped a perfectly weighted pass to Davies, who rounded Brill with ease, to stroke the ball into an empty net.

However, Oldham's lead lasted two minutes as Luton responded by getting themselves back on level terms on 34 minutes with their first attack of the game.

A free-kick out on the left was floated into the area by Bell and found the rising head of Fojut, who directed a glancing header beyond the reach of the outstretched arms of Mark Crossley.

It may have not been what Luton had deserved, but it was certainly a well executed header that gave Crossley no chance.

AT HALF TIME: OLDHAM 1 V 1 LUTON

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first with Oldham opening brightly without really troubling the Hatters goal.

The first notable effort of the half arrived on 58 minutes when Mark Allott almost took advantage of some slack Luton defending by unleashing a first time shot from 25-yards that flashed over the crossbar.

Some inadequate refereeing by Andy Haines was certainly spoiling the game, as Oldham fans made their feelings heard towards the Tyne and Wear official.

On 63 minutes, Hughes flashed a header wide of the Luton goal after he leapt above the Hatters defence to almost guide home Allot's cross from the right.

Oldham were looking dangerous on the attack and on 67 minutes Stefan Stam should have done better when he headed wide from six yards out, connecting with a pinpoint cross out on the left from Kilkenny.

Brill then kept his side on level terms when on 74 minutes the Luton goalkeeper kept out Hughes close range shot out with his feet after the former West Brom striker was played through by Davies' pass.

On 82 minutes, Furlong had a sniff at the Oldham goal, but after turning on the edge of the area, his shot was blocked and rolled safely into the arms of Crossley.

Oldham threw plenty of men forward in the closing stages, but despite going close on several occasions, they couldn't force a winner.
