Despite some impressive defending, Luton failed to keep a clean sheet at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 67th minute when numerous attempts by Nathan Tyson eventually lead to a goal.
Luton continued to have plenty of chance but failed to find the equaliser.
Darren Currie replaced Calvin Andrew in this afternoon's game against Nottingham Forest while Richard Langley joined Marlon Beresford on the substitute's bench.
After a slow start Sam Parkin took the first shot of the game on eleven minutes, but a deflection from one of Forest's defenders slowed the ball, giving Paul Smith an easy save.
Nottingham Forest continued to mount the pressure and had two great opportunites in two minutes.
Firstly, Kris Commons found a way past Keith Keane before taking his attempt but keeper Dean Brill made an impressive diving save and managed to push the ball clear.
The resulting corner gave Forest their second chance in the 17th minute, but Sol Davis cleared captain Ian Breckin's shot off the line, much to the disappointment of the home fans.

Luton started a busy three minutes of action in the 52nd minute when Darren Currie picked out Parkin who headed the ball over the cross bar.
Forest were quick to respond with an attempt that dribbled wide of the post before Matthew Spring was unlucky to have his shot deflect wide on 54 minutes.
Nottingham Forest took the lead on 67 minutes when a cross from substitute Garath McCleary found Tyson.
The Forest striker took three attempts at goal before finally firing home a left-footed shot from 6 yards.
Desperate to get back in the game, Spring shot from 25 yards and was unlucky to see his effort palmed out.
However, the Nottingham defence cleared the ball straight into to the path of Lewis Emanuel who took his shot from 30 yards and again saw it pushed clear on 74 minutes.
With just two minutes left Forest nearly doubled their lead, after a well taken corner by Lewis McGugan saw Wes Morgan header the ball at goal before Brill tipped the attempt over the crossbar.
