Luton ended a run of five consecutive defeats with a well earned draw against Millwall at Kenilworth Road.

Just hours before news broke of the LTFC2020 consortiums conditional acceptance to buy the Club had been approved and the players came close to making it a double celebration.

The Hatters went in front in the first half when Paul Furlong headed home his 12th goal of the season from a Dean Morgan cross.

But Millwall grabbed an equaliser five minutes before the interval when Lewis Grabban took advantage of a mistake from Dean Brill in the Luton goal.

Luton boss Mick Harford made three changes from the side that performed bravely against League One leaders Swansea on Friday.

Dean Morgan was recalled to the starting line-up after recovering from a groin injury to replace the suspended Sol Davis.

Stephen O'Leary was handed his first League start of the season as he partnered Matthew Spring in the centre of midfield with Steve Robinson serving the first of his two-match suspension.

Elsewhere, Furlong returned to the Hatters strike force as Sam Parkin was left out of the 16-man squad.

Millwall included two familiar faces in their 16-man squad with Ahmet Brkovic and Adrian Forbes amongst the substitutes.

The Luton fans were already in a buoyant mood prior to kick-off as TV presenter and Hatters fan Nick Owen announced over the PA system that his LTFC2020 consortium has had a conditional acceptance of an offer to buy the Club approved.

But the mood amongst supporters soon shifted as the large Millwall following were encouraged by their teams bright start to the game as the visitors twice came close to scoring inside the opening six minutes.

Firstly, on four minutes, a David Martin corner on the right was met by Zak Whitbread's bullet header, but David Bell was in the right place to clear the ball off the line.

Moments later the visitors went close again as the Hatters were almost caught on the counter attack as Grabban's surging run into the box saw the midfielder pull the ball back to Gary Alexander, but the striker blasted over the crossbar.

Luton soon got into their stride and on 16 minutes a Morgan cross from the left found the unmarked Matthew Spring, but his header was comfortably saved by Millwall goalkeeper Rhys Evans.

This action packed game warranted a goal and that arrived on 19 minutes as Luton took the lead in a game for the first time in over a month.

Morgan, who had been looking dangerous down the left, provided a pinpoint cross that was met by Furlong's towering header from close range that left Evans with no chance.

The Hatters almost doubled their advantage two minutes later as another Morgan cross was this time turned towards goal by Bell, but the midfielder was to be denied as the ball was cleared off the line by Whitbread.

Millwall responded strongly and Grabban came close to an equaliser on 35 minutes when his goalbound shot was superbly blocked by a brave Keith Keane tackle.

As the visitors mounted more pressure, Brill was called upon to make a vital save on 36 minutes when he acrobatically tipped over a Whitbread header from eight-yards.

It was little surprise when the visitors grabbed an equaliser, but it was a goal that could have certainly been avoided, as Martin's corner on 40 minutes wasn't gathered by Brill, allowing Grabban to scramble the ball home from close range.

AT HALF TIME: LUTON 1 V 1 MILLWALL

Luton almost made the perfect start to the second half when, on 49 minutes, O'Leary's shot on the turn was saved by the quick reactions of Evans.

Dean Morgan tried his luck from distance on 52 minutes, but squandering another effort on 59 minutes when he tried to turn a half volley towards goal from 15-yards.

The second half proved to be a dull affair, but Luton were looking like to more likely side to score and O'Leary came close on 66 minutes when he fired agonisingly wide from 25-yards.

Luton should have been in front on 71 minutes when Bell managed to squeeze over a cross at the second attempt, and although Talbot missed an overhead kick, the ball found its way to the back post where Spring somehow failed to hit the target from six-yards out.

The Hatters thought they should have had a penalty moments later when Whitbread brought down Furlong inside the area with a clumsy challenge.

Bell and O'Leary both had half chances, but Luton were still unable to find the killer instinct in front of goal.

Despite five minutes of stoppage time, and a lot of Luton pressure, the Hatters couldn't force a winner.
