Luton continue to wait for their first win under manager Mick Harford following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Walsall.

A lacklustre Hatters display saw them rarely threaten the Walsall goal, whose goal arrived after just four minutes through Stefan Moore.

Luton did have the ball in the back of the net on 85 minutes when Calvin Andrew headed home from close range, only for the referee to disallow it for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Luton went into the game making two changes from the side that drew with Millwall in midweek.

Paul McVeigh was handed his first start for the Hatters since November, replacing the injured David Bell in midfield.

Sol Davis was also back in Luton's starting line-up as he replaced the injured Lewis Emanuel at left-back.

There was also a change amongst the substitutes with Darren Currie recalled to the 16-man squad.

Walsall, under the guidance of former Luton defender Richard Money, gave a debut to former QPR man Moore, whilst ex-Watford striker Tommy Mooney started in attack.

The visitors started brightly and looked to score in the opening few minutes when a shot from Anthony Gerrard, after a poorly cleared corner, forced Keith Keane to clear the ball off the line.

Walsall had taken the game to the Hatters in the early stages and the deadlock was soon broken when on four minutes a ball from Mooney released Moore, who was allowed to roll the ball past Brill, who was praying for an offside flag, and into an open goal.

The Hatters were quick to retaliate and went on the attack. A Luton corner gave the home team their first real chance and they were unlucky when a shot from McVeigh went wide of the goal.

Walsall goalkeeper, Clayton Ince, was forced to make his first save of the game when Drew Talbot made an impressive run from the half-way line, to beat two defenders, before taking a shot on 23 minutes.

Luton were determined to make an impression on the game and created their best effort of the game on 32 minutes after McVeigh crossed the ball to Stephen O'Leary who turned to shoot on the half volley. However, Ince was quick of the mark and made a comfortable save on the bounce.

HALF TIME LUTON 0 - 1 WALSALL

Luton started the better of the two teams after the restart, but despite a few early chances the game quickly dwindled out.

The Hatters were still creating the better of the chances and Spring almost put Luton back on level terms when, after battling his way past the Walsall defence, he took a shot from 15-yards only to see his effort caught by the inform Ince.

However as the game continued at a somewhat slower pace, with chances few and far between, Mooney made sure Brill kept on his toes when he took a shot outside the area.

Walsall were quick to grab another chance when Holmes found space in the area to shoot. Brill failed to catch the ball, leaving Keane to stop the Walsall attack.

As the time ticked on, Luton were growing increasingly desperate for a goal. Spring opened up a perfect opportunity, when on 81 minutes, he left the visitors standing to take a shot from distance. Ince managed to tip the ball over but the Hatters were rewarded with corner for his effort.

From the resulting kick, the Luton midfielder crossed the ball into the area to the waiting Calvin Andrew, who headed the ball in to the goal only for it to be disallowed after a foul on the goalkeeper.
