Norwich served up a treat in front of their celebrity Chef Director Delia Smith with a relatively comfortable victory over a lacklustre Luton side.

Darren Huckerby and skipper Andy Hughes both found the target in the first-half although the star of the show was Dean Ashton, who set-up both goals and terrorised the Luton defence all afternoon.

Luton were never really in the game and struggled all afternoon to really threaten the Norwich defence, who looked so unorganised in their defeat at Kenilworth Road last month.

To compound a miserable afternoon for Luton, they finished the game with ten men after Russell Perrett was sent-off in the closing stages of the game for a second bookable offence.

Luton went into the match boosted by the return of midfield duo Kevin Nicholls and Steve Robinson who overcame injury troubles that had forced them to miss several weeks of action.

However, there was no place for Trinidad hero Carlos Edwards with Ahmet Brkovic returning to the side to fill the vacant position on the right side of midfield.

Norwich, with only one win in their last seven competitive fixtures, made five changes from the side that were defeated by Wolverhampton with David Wright and Dickson Etuhu both making their Canaries debut after signing on-loan.

Luton almost made the perfect start to the game when a Kevin Nicholls free-kick wasn't dealt with by the Norwich defence. The loose ball fell to Markus Heikkinen whose first time pass found Dean Morgan who cracked a volley straight into the arms of Robert Green.

However, Norwich went one better moments later as they broke the deadlock inside three minutes. Ashton's sweeping ball from left-to-right found Hughes who buried his shot with a low drive that left Luton goalkeeper Marlon Beresford helpless.

Norwich should have extended their lead further on 13 minutes when Wright's link-up play with Callum Davenport enabled the on-loan Wigan man to whip in a cross from the right flank which Etuhu should have buried, with a downward header that flashed wide of a post

AFTER 15 MINS: NORWICH 1 V 0 LUTON

The slow tempo to the game was making the match a dour contest with neither team able to create any fluency to their play.

Luton had shouts for a penalty waved away when Brkovic was sent tumbling in the penalty area on 18 minutes with Croatian midfielder bearing down on goal.

When going forward, Norwich looked dangerous and doubled their advantage on 24 minutes thanks to some advantageous play from Ashton. The former Crewe man flicked a delightful long ball into the path of Huckerby, who lost his marker, and side-footed a shot under the body of Beresford.

AFTER 30 MINS: NORWICH 2 V 0 LUTON

Luton were struggling to really get behind the Norwich defence as chances remained limited. Gary Doherty almost found the back of the net with a strong header from Safri's free-kick but Beresford was hardly troubled.

Ashton was proving too hot to handle for Luton and he almost extended Norwich's lead on 37 minutes when he carved out an opening to fire a low shot that Beresford was equal with.

Luton almost reduced the deficit on 39 minutes when Howard's shot from close range was neatly saved by Green, pushing the ball around the post with a one-handed intervention.

AT HALF-TIME: NORWICH 2 V 0 LUTON

Warren Feeney should have got Luton back into the game a minute into the second-half but the Northern Ireland striker fired over the crossbar from just outside the area.

Luton had made a positive start to the second-half but a mix-up in the visitors defence almost saw Ashton nip-in and grab his first of the game.

Luton were awarded a disputed corner on 56 minutes which almost resulted in the visitors getting themselves back into the match but Markus Heikkinen couldn't keep his header on target after Howard had put the ball into a dangerous area.

Beresford came to Luton's rescue on the hour with a vital save at the feet of Ashton after Davenport's surging run and pass cut open the visitors' wayward defence.

AFTER 60 MINS: NORWICH 2 V 0 LUTON

Rowan Vine, on as a second-half substitute, almost grabbed a goal on 70 minutes with a flying header following a swinging right wing cross from Brkovic.

Luton were struggling to create any worthwhile chances the visitors' neat build-up play was being let down by their final ball.

AFTER 75 MINS: NORWICH 2 V 0 LUTON

Beresford had to be equal with an Ian Henderson thunderbolt as Norwich came searching for a third.

Luton maintained their pressure until the final stages of the game and Howard almost got a consolation, five minutes from time, when the striker side-footed a shot wide of the target.

Luton finished the game with ten men when Perrett was sent off for a second bookable offence after a rash challenge on Peter Thorne.
