A last gasp strike from Huddersfield's Luke Beckett gave the home side a share of the spoils over the Hatters.

Ahmet Brkovic had poked home from close range Kevin Foley's cross on 33 minutes but Beckett's last gasp strike meant the points were shared in a evenly fought out contest.

Newell went into the match without the services of defender Chris Coyne (suspended) and midfielder Paul Underwood (hamstring) meaning Russell Perrett returned to heart of Luton's defence.

Keith Keane kept his place in the starting line-up to operate on the left-flank with Foley as Newell made that one change from the team which drew with Tranmere last Saturday.

Huddersfield handed a debut to Adnan Ahmed but boss Peter Jackson surprised many be leaving striker and top scorer Pawel Abbott amongst the substitutes.

Luton, who made a reasonable start to the match, had a penalty appeal turned down inside the opening five minutes as Steve Howard was sent tumbling in the penalty area by Nathan Clarke.

The Hatters striker was adamant he was impeded but despite some heavy protesting from the visitors, Mr Thorpe, the match referee, waved away the appeals.

Huddersfield almost broke the deadlock moments later when, following some neat work down the right flank, Andy Booth flashed a header the wrong side of Marlon Beresford's goal.

Booth continued to cause problems for Luton and on 12 minutes the former Sheffield Wednesday striker saw a half volley from Danny Schofield's cross flash inches over the frame of the goal.

After 15 mins: Huddersfield 0 v 0 Town

Huddersfield continued to play some free-flowing football and Booth almost had a sniff at goal on 18 minutes but just as the striker was about to fire goalwards, Curtis Davies provided a timely tackle to intervene.

The Yorkshire club had much of the early running of the game as Luton struggled to contain the threat of Booth and strike partner Beckett, whose aerial ability was proving to be Huddersfield's route to goal.

Schofield tried his luck from 20-yards but fired straight into the arms of Beresford and Beckett almost guided the ball home moments later but went wide of the target with a header.

After 30 mins: Huddersfield 0 v 0 Town

Despite all of Huddersfield's pressure, Luton snatched the lead on 33 minutes through Brkovic. The Hatters midfielder was at full stretch as he guided home Foley's cross from the right flank from close range.

It was the Croatian's 11th goal of the season although Howard should have steered the ball home to get on the score sheet himself but failed to make connection with the cross.

Huddersfield had chances before the interval to get themselves back on level terms but Booth and Beckett were both thwarted by important saves from Beresford and Chris Brandon drove inches wide of the target.

Half Time: Huddersfield 0 v 1 Town

As expected, Huddersfield came out strongly in the second-half and Booth's towering header on 50 minutes flew straight into the arms of Beresford.

Foley wasted a good chance for Luton a short while later firing over the crossbar from 20-yards and Vine's surging run into the Huddersfield penalty area on 55 minutes ended with the on-loan Portsmouth striker failing to hit the target.

After 60 mins: Huddersfield 0 v 1 Town

Huddersfield threw Abbott into action just after the hour mark to in bid to break down Luton's defence.

The home crowd were off their seats on 68 minutes when they thought Rob Edwards' fierce drive on 68 minutes had beaten Beresford. Unfortunately, the shot brushed the side netting as Luton held onto their advantage.

Luton had another shout for a penalty turned down as Steve Robinson was sent crashing to the floor on 71 minutes under a challenge from Clarke.

After 75 mins: Huddersfield 0 v 1 Luton

As the game came heading towards a frantic finish, Luton were put under intense pressure although Beresford hadn't been called upon to make a save.

Howard may have been expected to do better when Foley found him in an unguarded Huddersfield penalty area but the Luton striker squandered his effort.

Moments later, Howard came close to sealing all three points when he glanced a header wide of the target with Huddersfield goalkeeper Paul Rachubka beaten by the pace of Brkovic's cross.

Beresford made an important save with five minute remaining to keep his side in front diving low to his left to keep out Beckett's low drive.

However, Beckett scored in the last minute of the fourth in stoppage time lobbing the onrushing Beresford to share the points between the two sides.
