Town win 3-2 on aggregate
For the second season running the Town booked their place in the Play-Off final to leave them just one step away from a return to the Football League.
In typical Luton Town style, the trip to Wembley was won courtesy of a 3-2 aggregate victory that had see the Town lead 3-0 before almost being pegged back by league runners-up Wrexham.
A 2-0 first leg lead was extended to three on 25 minutes. Having ridden an early storm from the hosts intent on a crucial early goal to get them back in the tie, captain George Pilkington coolly slotted home from the penalty spot to give Paul Buckle's side the lead.
From that point there only seemed one winner but goals in games like these are always so important and Wrexham, on their feet and down and out moments before, were rejuvenated by the Adrian Cieslewicz's close range effort on 63 minutes.
14 minutes later and lead was down to just one when player/boss Andy Morrell rifled home to give Town followers a nervy final 15 minutes.
But, as boss Paul Buckle would later go on to say, his team were immense in their 18 yard box - just as they were immense in the Wrexham 18 yard box in the first leg - and that proved to be the crucial factor as, after eight minutes of additional time, the Town held on to celebrate a second trip to the new Wembley and a meeting with York City - extra-time victors over Mansfield.
It was as you were for the Town from the first leg with one change on the bench, where Dan Gleeson was preferred to John Paul Kissock.
Leading by two-first goals the Hatters were under no illusions how tough it was going to be against a Wrexham side who had won 13 of their 16 home victories by a two-goal margin.
With a wind blowing around the Racecourse the home side started well on top, roared on by 8,000 Welsh voices.
The Town were under increasing pressure as the Red Dragons, who were showing four changes to the side that lost the first leg, attacked at will. One of those changes, Jake Speight, saw a shot deflected into the arms of Mark Tyler on seven minutes before Pilkington did brilliantly to block Jay Harris' low shot from the edge of the box.
Wrexham continued to push forward, dangerously so, but, slowly and surely, the Hatters got a grip on the game, always trying to use the pace and power of Andre Gray on the break.
The hosts, who had finished 17 points above the Town in the league standings, got in behind on 20 minutes but Glen Little's dinked cross to the back post was headed across goal rather than at goal by Danny Wright.
It was slow if unspectacular stuff from the Town. It took the Hatters 22 minutes to win their first corner but, a minute later, they were given a fantastic opportunity to add to their aggregate advantage when referee Bratt pointed to the penalty spot after Alex Lawless had been upended by Mark Creighton. The midfielder took a knock for his troubles and it was good 90 seconds before Pilkington stepped up. The skipper, already the scorer of a penalty in a season blighted by missed chances from 12 yards, did the business again, sending Joslain Mayebi the wrong way. Cue pandemonium in the away end.
There was a deadly hush around the home areas of the Racecourse with the Town now three goals up on aggregate.
Back came Wrexham, right-back Danny Alfei getting around the back of Jake Howells, but his poor with delivery, was easy catching practise for Mark Tyler.
You knew, especially from the evidence from the first leg, that the Town had the beating of Wrexham for pace on the break and on 31 minutes Gray and Stuart Fleetwood - who tormented Morrell's side to such devastating effect four days ago - almost combined to make it 2-0. Gray found Fleetwood on the edge of the area but the striker was met by the figure of Mayebi who did well to gather as the two collided.
Such was the excellence of the Town's defence, Tyler was enjoying a relatively stress-free afternoon but that all changed on 39 minutes when the goalkeeper kept out Little's piledriver from the edge of the area with a flying stop.
As the break approached there was almost half-a-chance for Gray dead on 45 minutes when his cross came close to finding Howells before Adam Watkins almost bore down on goal having taken a pass from Howells.
The Town had a glorious chance to open up a four-goal cushion within the first minute of the second period when Fleetwood strode clear having seized on a stray Wrexham pass but, having got to the edge of the penalty area, his low shot was saved comfortably by Mayebi.
As Wrexham laboured, almost in the doldrums, Gray almost made it 2-0 and 4-0 on aggregate on 52 minutes when he was mightily close from seeing his fantastic impudent lob drift narrowly wide of the target with the goalkeeper beaten.
Gray then wormed his way into the box a minute later only to lash wildly into the Wrexham fans behind the goal before Buckle made his first change on 57 minutes, bringing on Greg Taylor for Fleetwood.
Back came Wrexham, boss Morrell now sending himself on as a substitute to join centre-back Creighton in attack.
All of a sudden Wrexham's direct approach was causing the Town problems and on 63 minutes they reduced the aggregate deficit when Cieslewicz bundled the ball home at the back post following a right-wing corner. It was the first goal the Hatters had conceded in 637 minutes.
Now it was well and truly all the hosts. Urged by their passionate support it seemed the Hatters had no answer to the ever-increasing pressure and the high balls lofted into their box.
On 66 minutes the Town had Tyler to thank for a hugely important save to keep out Alfei's shot on the turn from eight yards.
It was a key save at a crucial time but there was no let up in the wave after wave of Wrexham attacks and the home side got another goal back with 13 minute left when Morrell fired home from close range after his initial shot had come back off the post.
It was squeaky bum time for the Town as time ticked down. Wrexham tried in vain to take the tie to extra-time but the Town rode the storm and began to hit the hosts on the break. Taylor and substitutes Amari Morgan-Smith and Craig McAllister all came close to adding to the score in the final, tense few moments.
The fourth official signalled five added minutes but it wasn't after a nerve-jangling eight minutes that the referee blew for full-time.
Cue celebrations in the away end, in the Town dugout and the Hatters players. Throw in a few thousand around the world watching, listening, or reading.
The Town are on their way to Wembley...
York await in the final a week on Sunday.
All you have to do is believe. See you at Wembley.

57 mins
First Town sub, Stuart Fleetwood replaced by Greg Taylor.
53 mins - And again, chance for the Town to seal it, Gray into the box, blazes widly into the stand behind the goal.
52 mins - Oh, Wrexham continue to gift the Town possession, this time, Lawless sends Gray streaking through, and the striker isn't far away with impudent effort to catch Mayebi off his line. He isn't far away. Would have been a great effort.
46 mins - Big chance for the Hatters on the break, Little's pass astray, given to Fleetwood, strides upfield, arrows a low shot which is easy for Mayebi.

43 mins - Two minutes to the break here. Atmosphere dead bar 1,200 in the away end.
39 mins - Chance for Wrexham as the break approaches, veteran Little testing Tyler's fingertips with a rasper from 25 yards that keeper does well to tip over acrobatically.
36 mins - Concern for Kovacs in the penalty area as he lands awkardly but he's up and okay again.
34 mins - Back come Wrexham, winning a succession of corners that the Town defend well. By the way that's Pilks' second of the season, and the second from the spot.

22 mins - Hatters win their first corner, swung in by Howells and claimed by Mayebi with Kovacs not far away.

17 mins - Free-kick to the Hatters on the edge of the Wrexham area, won by Gray...taken by Willmott, blocked well by Harris.

13 mins - Still Wrexham push, they win their first corner that the Town clear but then a first Hatter is in the book, Watkins for a sliding challenge on Alfei.
10 mins - Town started under the cosh here. Almost another opportunity for the hosts, Harris low shot blocked by Pilkington on the edge of the area.
7 mins - Barely a chance so far. Wrexham dominated most of the play, then there is almost half a sniff for the hosts but Speight's deflected shot is easy for Tyler.

12:00 PRE-MATCH TALK
Paul Buckle held his pre-match press conference on Friday.

10:30 NERVES, WHAT NERVES?
Admit it. Who else was grinning on their way into work last Friday? Yes, I can imagine a lot of you.
But admit it. Who is now feeling the nerves ahead of the second leg? Yep, probably quite a few of you.
Nerves? What nerves? Town boss Paul Buckle's mantra of "there are only nerves when you cut corners" are desperately trying to keep the author of these words on the level. It's something you have to believe in.
Last Thursday's thrilling 2-0 win over Wrexham has set up one almighty second leg at the Racecourse. A sixth successive clean sheet and a seventh game unbeaten for the new boss. Put it simply: another clean sheet or another game unbeaten today and the Hatters will be walking out at Wembley on 20th May. Hello nerves...
As long-standing supporters will tell you, following the Town will never be easy. Nerves just become part of the deal. But given the Buckle Factor, the Buckle Effect, that has swept over Kenilworth Road and transformed the morale and confidence of the players and supporters, nerves are slowly diminishing.
Belief and enjoyment are words the boss often uses. Players playing with smiles on their faces, loving their football, believing in their own ability again. The result of five wins from seven games and just two goals conceded is testament to not only the new manager but the players themselves.
They are the ones that hold the opportunity in their hands. A two-goal lead has never been cherished so much. After the debacles at Braintree and Forest Green who in their right mind who have fancied the Town a month ago? Not many, I bet.
But here they are, standing a game away from Wembley with a 2-0 lead to show for their efforts in an almost near-perfect first leg.
It's not over - not by a long shot, but remember, all you have to do is believe...
