OPRE-MATCH TALK

Gary Brabin: "Teams do park the bus to make it difficult for us but, like I said after the game on Wednesday, we need to match the opposition's work-rate and strength and we need to be brighter and more intelligent with the ball in attacking areas. One thing you're going to get with Alfreton is that they're going to be physical - but that's no alien to us. We need to match them physically and mentally but we've got to have that bit of craft and creativity ourselves. We need to match their strengths and play to ours."

Alfreton boss Nicky Law: "It will be Luton's fourth game in eight days, but they have got a massive squad. They will have rotated players to keep them fresh. Nothing is expected of us. All we can do is go there, approach the game in the right way, give it our best shot and see where it gets us."

TEAM NEWS

Hatters: The Town will be without Keith Keane who continues to nurse a hamstring injury. Amari Morgan-Smith is doubtful with a hamstring injury too. An ankle injury has been affecting James Dance but the winger has been playing through the pain barrier and isn't 100 per cent. John Paul Kissock is back from an eye injury sustained in the FA Trophy replay with Hinckley whilst Dean Beckwith and Shane Blackett are back in training after recovering from calf and groin injuries respectively. Charlie Henry has returned from a loan spell at Aldershot and is back in the squad.

Reds: Striker Louis Moult will serve the second of a three-game suspension for his sending off against Kidderminster whilst keeper Joe Day is still nursing a groin injury back to full fitness. Central defender Adam Quinn will unavailable as he sits out the first of a two-game suspension for accruing his 10th yellow card of the season in the win at Bath

Alfreton Town

Manager: Nicky Law

Nickname: The Reds

CLUB HISTORY

Alfreton Town were formed in 1959 following the merger of Alfreton Miners Welfare and Alfreton United football clubs.

The club was admitted directly to the Central Alliance Division One (North) and progressed sufficiently in the first two seasons to gain entry to the re-formed Midland Counties League.

After holding the wooden spoon in 1961/62 Alfreton seldom looked back and took the Midland League title in 1969/70 after several near misses.

The triumph was repeated three years later and again in 1976/77. Further success came in the Northern Counties East League following the merger of the Midland and Yorkshire Leagues in 1982. They won the League Cup in season 1984/85 and were champions in 1986/87 before accepting a place in the newly formed First Division of the Northern Premier League for season 1987/88.

In the 1994/95 season, after leading the table for most of the season, the Reds missed out on promotion as they contrived to lose three of their last four matches. This disappointment was forgotten the following season when they finished runners-up to Lancaster City and were promoted to the Premier Division of the Northern Premier League for the first time ever.

A two-year tenure proved difficult and after escaping a return to UniBond Division One in the 1996/97 campaign, a downward spiral struck and successive relegations saw the club slip back into the Northern Counties (East) League at the end of the 1998/99 season.

The 2001/02 campaign saw Chris Wilder land unprecedented success as the Reds landed four trophies, including the Northern Counties (East) League Premier Division title.

Wilder departed to manage former club Halifax in the summer of 2002 but, in his first full season in charge, manager Dave Lloyd guided the Reds to a second successive championship when they lifted the 2002/03 UniBond League First Division title.

After a great start to the 2004/05 season in the new Conference North Division the Reds led the table until the turn of the year when a complete reversal in form saw them slide down the table to eventually finish 14th.

At the end of the 2004/05 season the club parted company with Lloyd and Gary Mills was installed as the first full time manager at the Impact Arena in the summer of 2005.

Despite sinking to the foot of the Conference North table a much improved run of form saw safety achieved well before the final day of the season with the Reds finishing 17th.

A 14th place finished followed in 2006/07 that saw Mills depart for Tamworth and Marcus Ebdon take control.

Nicky Law took over in June 2007 having had two highly successful seasons with Buxton and the new boss guided the club to a 16th place finish.

In 2008/09 the Reds finished third in Conference North and competed in the play-offs for the first time ever, narrowly losing out in the semi-finals against AFC Telford United.

A third place finish was achieved once more in 2009/10 but after reaching the play-off this time round, Fleetwood were the ones celebrating promotion.

But it was third time lucky last season that saw promotion clinched as Blue Square Bet North champions by a 10-point margin to ensure the Reds are nowcompeting at the highest level in their history.
