HAYES AND YEADING PREVIEW

Posted on: Sun 29 Aug 2010

FROM BOTH CAMPS:

Richard Money: "Garry Haylock has signed some good players this year and they started off very strongly and I'm really expecting nothing other than a difficult match. It is tough every time we take to the pitch and anyone who thinks differently is living in cloud cuckoo land. We've got no divine right to beat anybody as we saw at Tamworth on Saturday and Monday will be exactly the same."

Former Hatter and Hayes and Yeading captain Peter Holmes: "I played a lot of games for Luton, it was an up and down time there with a few promotions and relegations. I enjoyed it though and it was probably the best time of my career. I might get some stick going back there, but it will be nice to see some familiar faces. But I want to go back there and get a win as last season we won there 3-2 with Ebbsfleet and it was a fantastic performance, that was a great feeling for me. It will be the best atmosphere that the lads are going to play in this season as the Luton fans are very vocal. They will definitely be favourites, but if we can hold on and do the job that we did at Grimsby, then we could turn the crowd the other way. If we can play nice football like we did at Grimsby and have a bit about us at the back then you never know."

TEAM NEWS:

Hatters: The Town welcome back Keith Keane after he served a one-match suspension in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Tamworth. For the sixth game in 16 days Richard Money may well make changes to the starting XI with his squad fully-fit and available for selection.

Hayes and Yeading: It's likely to be as you were for Garry Haylock as his side look to bounce back after Saturday 3-0 home reverse to Crawley. Leading goalscorer Ben Wright has since joined Crawley who have in turn loaned striker Malcolm Malcolm who could feature at Kenilworth Road.

HAYES AND YEADING UNITED

Hayes & Yeading

CLUB HISTORY

Hayes & Yeading United Football Club was created in May 2007 following the merger of both Hayes and Yeading Football Clubs after the two clubs' respective Chairmen, Derek Goodall and Philip Spurden agreed that the only way either club could continue, long term, at the level they were playing would be to join forces as a single entity.

Prior to the joining of forces, both clubs were due to hit significant landmarks in their respective histories. The Missioners were just two years short of their centenary while the Ding were just one further year away from celebrating their half century.

In the club's maiden season of 2007/08 the new team finished a respectable 13th in the Conference South before winning promotion through the Play-Offs in 2008/09, with victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough.

In their first campaign in the Blue Square Premier, Haylock's men rubbished the bookmakers' predictions of an immediate return to Level 2 of the non-league pyramid when a fantastic season saw United finish in 17th and do the double of Oxford.

LAST MEETING - LUTON TOWN 8-0 HAYES & YEADING UNITED 27/03/2010

Supporters of today's visitors probably won't want reminding of their last visit to Kenilworth Road when they conceded eight goals without reply.

The Hatters got the ball rolling in the seventh minute when Kevin Gallen got the first of his two goals when reacting quickest in the penalty area, after Freddie Murray's left-wing cross bounced inside the visitors' penalty area.

Kevin Gallen opens the scoring against Hayes & Yeading - the first of eight for the Town

Claude Gnakpa doubled the lead after sending a scorching drive across Hayes & Yeading goalkeeper Clark Masters and on 13 minutes the Frenchman found the net again to put the Town three-up when he was on hand to nod Jake Howells' teasing cross, from the left, comfortably past Masters from close range.

Ten minutes passed without the Town scoring again but that soon ended when Gallen notched his second and the Hatters' fourth on 23 minutes and then three minutes later it was five when Keith Keane sent a curling shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Tom Craddock celebrates with Kevin Gallen

Tom Craddock got his name on the scoresheet with Gnakpa the creator, beating his man down the right before whipping in a perfect cross for the striker to nod firmly past the hapless Masters to make it 6-0.

With half-time still to come, Gallen saw his chance of a hat-trick denied by both posts before Howells pounced on the loose ball to tap-home from a yard out to make it seven.

The Kenilworth Road scoreboard tells it's own story at half-time with the Town 7-0 up. It finished 8-0

In the second half the Hatters hit their eighth when Craddock tapped home his second after seeing his original shot come back off the crossbar, to complete the scoring on a sensational afternoon.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Steve Basham, Rocky Baptiste and Kofi Nyamah are all former Town players who have also featured for our visitors this afternoon.
