SECOND LEG PREVIEW

Posted on: Sun 02 May 2010

FROM BOTH CAMPS:

Richard Money: "We've got to be mindful, clever and careful in our approach and makes sure we don't concede another goal. We've kept the video from the first leg running around the training ground because although we know we played well we know we're in for a good game and know that York played well. The players wanted to play first thing on Friday morning but we know we should have tested their goalkeeper a little bit more that's what we need to think about."

Martin Foyle: "We won't be playing for a draw because it is hard to get out of that negative mentality if you concede a goal and we will go there and play our normal game. It's nip and tuck now. I know Luton will come at us and I know we are capable of scoring a goal. It's just hard to predict whether they will go for it early on or be patient and have a big go at it later on. But we can't worry about what they will do. We can only concentrate on ourselves and we are looking forward to the game."

TEAM NEWS:

Hatters: Claude Gnakpa is fine after pulling up with cramp in the first leg while Fred Murray is okay after being on the receiving end of a crunching late tackle in the same game. Richard Money will make a decision on Ed Asafu-Adjaye as he continues to struggle with a slight hip injury. He has trained the past few days, however. Money may keep the faith with Adam Newton at right back.

Minstermen: City boss Martin Foyle admitted that he has fitness concerns over two of his players ahead of Monday's match but did not want to reveal their identity. He said: "We have got a couple of knocks and one is worse than we thought. We will just have to monitor the situation over the next 48 hours."

York's late win on Thursday in the first leg was the Minstermen's third in 18 league and cup encounters against the Town.

The Hatters have won 10 victories from the past 18 games in all competitions - including doing the double the last time the two sides met prior to this season in 2001/02.

The match at Bootham Crescent, a 2-1 victory, was probably best remembered for Steve Howard's missed penalty - missing twice after he was allowed to retake the spot kick by the referee.

The two sides have met on eight occasions at Kenilworth Road with the last - October's 1-1 draw - the Minstermen's only ever point on Bedfordshire soil, bringing to an end seven successive Town wins.

York's only league victory came in the two sides' first ever meeting in March 1967 at Bootham Crescent, coming out on top 5-1. That was followed two months later when the Hatters beat City by the same scoreline at Kenilworth Road!

Recent history:

After being founded in 1922 and joining the Football League seven year later the Minstermen finally lost their status as a League club following relegation from League 2 in 2003/04.

Their relegation that season was down in no small part to the fact they failed to win a league game in their final 20 matches of the campaign.

After a 17th place finish in their first season in the Conference they missed out on the Play-Offs by three places in 2005/06.

The following season, however, the Minstermen did make the end-of-season lottery but lost at the Semi-Final stage to Morecambe, who went onto win promotion themselves.

In 2007/08 City failed to replicate the form of the previous campaign and ended up marooned in mid table, eventually finishing 14th.

Last season saw another frustrating league campaign in the Conference for the Bootham Crescent faithful when finishing in 17th place, narrowly avoiding the drop with a late resurgence in form, towards the tail end of the season, helping them survive.

It was a different matter in the cup competitions, and Manager Martin Foyle did guide the club to Wembley in the FA Trophy, but the Minstermen lost 2-0 in the Final to Stevenage Borough.
