Town's promotion hopes took a dent following last week's 4-3 defeat at home to Wellingborough Diamonds.
Having produced the best performance of the season in the reverse fixture to win 4-0, the Ladies put in their poorest show in memory to go two goals down within half an hour.
The reverse in the scoreline stung Luton into action and when Rebecca Kane skipped past her marker she was brought down and the referee was on hand to award a penalty.
Micky Taylor stepped up to slot the ball in and Town were back in the game. Five minutes later and a Jess Nash corner was met at the far post by captain Carly Cowell whose looping header found the net for the equaliser.
This was Carly's first goal in over two years since she converted to her defensive role and followed a whole succession of near misses. The comeback was complete two minutes before the break when Kane was played in and made no mistake dumping Diamonds keeper Charlene Ward on the floor before rolling the ball into the net.
The 10 minute three goal salvo of superiority was a false dawn as the second half began in the same manner as the first with Town conceding two sloppy goals and the only effort of real significance was a Fay Howell strike that was headed up and over the crossbar by a covering defender with the keeper floundering.
The Ladies must now win all five remaining league matches to give themselves a realistic chance of grabbing the one promotion spot. This week's trip to fellow promotion chasers Lewes will go some way to decide our fate this season.
The reserve squad were also on the receiving end of a narrow 1-0 defeat going down to an injury time winner from Brentford although they felt harshly treated having seen a Yasmin Hickling shot bounce over the line before being cleared only to see the Referee over rule his assistant who had given the goal. This was then compounded by his blowing of the half time whistle as Kirsty McIntosh was clean through on goal.
The Under 16's were crowned league champions for the second consecutive year without even kicking a ball as other clubs' results have conspired to hand them the title although it must be said that their 100% record may also have had a part to play!
Stevenage Borough could not stand in the way of the Under 15's who marched into the last eight of the League Cup with a comfortable 6-0 win. The Under 14's were also successful and maintained their title challenge with a 2-1 win away to Hitchin Town.
