An FA Cup tie away to National League club Brighton & Hove Albion was sure to provide a real test for the young Town side fresh from their 6-2 win at Swindon Town.
Luton were in a confident mood and pressed their opponents from the very start, forcing them back and creating a number of half chances before eventually taking the lead.
Town's leading scorer Rebecca Kane was causing the home defence all kinds of problems and the only way they could stop her was by foul means.
A free kick by Jess Nash, after another foul on Kane 25 yards out, crashed against the bar and over.
Nicki Livingstone then volleyed a shot, which almost looped over with the 'keeper at full stretch, before the home side went close as corner was headed against the Town bar before being cleared.
Brighton came out for the second half in determined mood but the Town defence held firm and the counter attacking continued, as Luton now looked favourites to win the tie.
With 12 minutes left Luton 'keeper Nikki Duncan flew to her left to make a superb save from Brighton's only worthwhile effort of the half and that turned out to be a defining moment as Luton moved forward and a slide rule pass from Nicki Livingstone found Rebecca Kane racing though on goal. Her low shot found the net to secure an outstanding 1-0 win and Luton were unlucky not to add to their tally as attack was regarded as the best defence.
Luton now find themselves in the unfamiliar territory of the FA Cup fourth round where they now travel to Premier League opponents Blackburn Rovers on 4th January 2009.
