TOWN 6/5 TO RETURN TO WINNING WAYS

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

Last Saturday, up and down the country, but probably most of all in this corner of Bedfordshire, betting slips were torn up and the words "coupon buster" were uttered in unison as the Town's run of three successive victories in the Blue Square Premier was brought to a halt following a 3-2 home defeat to Ebbsfleet United.

At lutontown.co.uk we thought the Town's 2/5 quote from official betting partner bet365 was too short and that's how it proved as punters who stuck the neck on their line to take the 8/1 about an Ebbsfleet victory were rewarded.

If you fancy a bet this weekend on the Hatters' game at Barrow on Saturday then you are spoilt for choice: there are 26 different markets and hundreds off individual odds to choose from.

Richard Money's men are 6/5 to bring home all three points from the 512-mile round-trip to and from Holker Street. Can they make it four wins from five games? Without a defeat on the road since September is that a tempting price?

The Bluebirds lie in 18th place in the BSP having only won once in eight games in the league. They had a week off last week but drew in the week in their delayed FA Trophy tie with Gateshead.

Like many clubs, Darren Sheridan and Dave Bayliss' side had a disrupted Christmas and New Year programme schedule with their last league game - a 4-1 defeat at Rushden & Diamonds on 23rd January - their first since a 3-3 home draw with Gateshead on Boxing Day.

Their last win in the BSP came back on 5th December when they won 1-0 at Altrincham thanks to a goal from current Hatters loanee Craig Nelthorpe.

Barrow's last home win came against...Ebbsfleet on 17th October.

With that in mind bet365 are not taking any chances and go 15/8 that the home side inflict the Hatters first away league defeat since the 3-0 loss at Wrexham. A draw has been priced up at 12/5 - which could be the value...after all eight of the Bluebirds' 13 home fixtures have ended in draws this season.

Click here for all the match odds - you'll find the markets under the 'Soccer' section in the left-hand sports menu.

As always there is a plethora of punts available to fans who fancy a flutter on the Hatters'.

So first things first. How about the correct score? Can the Town grind out another 1-0 win like they did against Barrow last time out? bet365 go 6/1 for a repeat scoreline of September's victory.

Ok, so how about on the goal front. How about Liam Hatch? Back in the side, fit and injury free, manager Richard Money said he played Ebbsfleet on his own last week as he led the line in superb style and was rewarded with his first goal for the club. He's 6/1 to score the first or indeed the last goal against Barrow. Not bad in our book.

Or, how about chancing your arm with a scorecast? What about George Pilkington - he's popped up with some crucial goals this season and came close to netting last week with a shot on the turn late on against Ebbsfleet...So what about Pilks to score first and the Town to win 2-1? Could it happen? bet365 believe that's a 125/1 shot! Is that worth a few quid, or even a few pence even? Does that represent good value in your eyes?
