SKIPPER SPEAKS

Posted on: Tue 30 Mar 2010

Welcome back to Kenilworth Road this evening for our second home in succession as we continue to strive for promotion from the Blue Square Premier.

I don't think we could have dreamt of a better result against Hayes & Yeading on Saturday which will be a game I am sure we will never forget.

It's not every day you win football matches 8-0 and it's not every day you lead 7-0 at half-time. It's was certainly a first for me in my professional career and it was even more pleasing, from a defender's point of view to keep a clean sheet.

Saturday's win was our sixth on the spin and once again highlighted the confidence brimming throughout the squad at the minute.

When I say squad, that's exactly what I mean. It is not just down the 11 men on the pitch and the substitutes, but the whole squad.

Those who are not involved are just as important and it is crucial we stick together as we enter the business end of the campaign.

Tonight's match will prove to be one of the sternest we have faced in recent weeks. Salisbury are in a false position in the league table due to points deductions and come to Kenilworth Road with a very impressive away record.

We drew at their place back in September and I can remember how tough that game was. They are a very good side and we will need to be at our best this evening to earn another win.

We are all aware that there is another big game elsewhere in the division this evening but I am sure I echo the manager's thoughts when saying we can only concentrate and control what we do and not what others can.

Another positive result this evening will stand us in good stead to travel to Stevenage on Saturday. They have been the most consistent sides in the league and will prove to be a hard nut to crack.

However, it's an age-old cliché and we must take each game as it comes.

Given our form at the minute we fear nobody. Going forward we are hitting a tremendous hot streak in front of goal and if we can continue to do that as well as keep clean sheets at the other end then we have a fantastic chance of success this season.

Your support both home and away has been top notch recently. Please keep it up. As players we all feel incredibly privileged to play for a club with such a fantastic fan base.

Enjoy the game.

Pilks.
