NICO'S NOTES
Welcome back to Kenilworth Road for tonight's big game with Oxford United.
As a squad we all knew that our last performance here against Ebbsfleet was not good enough.
We let ourselves down badly that afternoon and to drop three points against a team struggling at the bottom of the table was a massive disappointment, especially after we had taken the lead.
A victory would have made it four wins in a row and would have sent out a big message to the teams above us that we mean business.
Sadly, it was not to be as we paid the price for a poor performance.
However, after a week's rest, we came back from the long trip to Barrow with a thoroughly deserved three points.
I must thank every single one of the 302 supporters who made the journey north to get behind the lads. It appreciated by all of the players and staff.
We started the game very well and I honestly think that is probably one of the best starts we have had to a match recently.
Although we failed to take our chances in the first half, our second half performance was superb. I thought it was a first class, professional display at a hard place to go.
All of the top teams have struggled when they have gone there so for us to return with a victory and a clean sheet is a huge bonus.
We know we have struggled with consistency all season and that has mostly been the case playing at Kenilworth Road.
It's time we started replicating our performances on the road at home and as a group of players we know if we can get that consistency going we can begin to catch the teams towards the top of the table.
The likes of Oxford, York and Stevenage can all boast a consistent level of results as their positions in the league table shows.
They are first, second and third for a reason and between them they have only lost a total of one game in front of their own supporters.
While our away displays have been fantastic, we need to turn Kenilworth Road into a fortress again: a place where teams fear coming rather than enjoying it.
Tonight's game has all the makings of a terrific encounter between two clubs who share a fine football history.
The atmosphere, under the floodlights, will be - I'm sure - electric and I hope we can reward your support with another three points tonight.
Enjoy the game.
Nico.
