NICO'S NOTES
It seems a long time since our last home league game against Eastbourne just after Christmas.
We went into that game having gone 16 days without playing because of the weather and perhaps that was the reason why we started sloppy and went a goal down early on.
However, we came back to equalise almost immediately and from that point on I thought we were well in control.
We took that positive result to Southampton in the FA Cup and I thought we started the game really positively against opponents doing well two divisions above us.
However, we fell behind following the award of what we all thought was a harsh free-kick, but we had to take our hats off to Rickie Lambert's strike.
In the second half we created some really good chances and, on another day, we could be talking about an FA Cup shock because I think we could have won the game, and, if not, at least earn a replay.
It's been a tough start to the New Year as the weather put pay to both our matches and hindered our training with it almost impossible to train on grass.
We went to Gateshead for our first match in three weeks and our lack of match practise showed as we started slowly and could have easily found ourselves behind.
But we dug deep, got lucky with the goal, and managed to do the most important thing: to collect three valuable points.
That was our second successive victory and we made it three on the spin on Wednesday with a win at Histon.
They made the Play-Offs last season and had only lost twice at home before we went there so to come away with a win and a clean sheet is very pleasing.
Not that we started well as, like at Gateshead, we began slowly. However, it was an open game which suited our style of play and once we got our noses in front we began to play the kind of football we are capable of. In the end we ran out comfortable winners.
That made it a thoroughly satisfying six points and two clean sheets from our last two matches and we need to make sure we continue in the same vein this afternoon against Ebbsfleet.
Our away form as been solid this season, but at home we have shot ourselves in the foot at times and we know we need to improve on it if we're to be successful.
Ebbsfleet are fighting for their lives to stay in the division and need the points as much as we do so it makes for a very interesting game.
With so many matches in hand it's important we take each game as it comes.
It will be tough but with three victories already behind us we have begun to get that momentum we have talked about so much.
If we can rack up a serious sequence of results teams will all of a sudden sit up and take notice of us.
However, it's up to us, the players, to do that and with plenty of points left to play for it should make for a fascinating second half to the season.
Enjoy the game.
Nico.
