NICO'S NOTES
The defeat against Kettering was a hugely disappointing result despite what we thought was a decent performance.
However, at the end of the day, it is football matches we want to be winning and this game is a results-based business so we've got to start to turning our superiority into goals and victories if we are to succeed this season.
It would have been an entirely different game had we taken our chances and we believed we could have been out of sight by the time they scored what turned out to be the winner.
At Kenilworth Road we seem to be getting punished far too often and are leaking too many goals which we have to iron out quickly because it is damaging our form in the league.
You only have to look at the games where we have dropped points at home to realise the extent of this with defeats to Stevenage, Rushden and Kettering and draws against York, Cambridge and Chester.
We drew with Chester for the second time this season on Saturday and I must take my hat off to them for standing up to us and earning a point after they were reduced to 10 men before half-time.
They had a very young side who were determined not lose. On the day we felt it was going to take a lucky goal for us to win the points.
It was obviously frustrating not to turn all our possession into goals but we have got to keep going.
We've found all season that it's been difficult to break teams down, especially at Kenilworth Road, but we're used to it now so there's no excuses.
It is up to us to now try and rectify our form at home starting with a positive result tonight against Rotherham United.
It would be a great start with our next three league fixtures all at Kenilworth Road over the busy Christmas period.
Tonight's game, however, it won't be easy as we found out at the Don Valley Stadium 10 days ago.
They are a good side and currently occupy a position in League 2's top three so we have to respect them.
The carrot has been dangled with a trip to Southampton awaiting the winners so tonight's game should make for entertaining and cut and thrust cup football.
We're all aware of the great atmosphere created on nights like this so get behind the lads and enjoy the game.
Nico.
