Despite an impressive first half performance Luton only managed to come away from The New Den with one point.

At the start of the season many would have seen getting a point away from home as a positive, but as the relegation battle continues Paul McVeigh admits they should have done better.

"I really thought we were on top in the first half but we should have scored some goals.

"The second half was how it has been for the last couple of games now, we start off well but we don't really capitalise on it and I think that was the problem again at Millwall.

"We are trying to win every game. As the manager keeps saying, draws aren't really good for us at the minute but a couple of weeks ago we might have lost that game today or against Cheltenham. So it depends how you look it.

"It's slightly frustrating when you are trying as hard as you can on the pitch and are still not getting the results.

"But as a professional you know not everything is going to go your way every time and the other team are doing exactly the same thing, they're trying to win the game.

"You're not going to win every game and you're not going to lose every game but you have to go out there thinking you can win it."

However the Hatters recent win over Oldham has had a huge impact around the ground, both on and off the pitch, although McVeigh is unable to pin point the reasons behind the sudden change in form.

"It's very hard to quantify the reason why we have won a game.

"Sometimes you can go out and play really well and still lose and vice versa, you can go out and just be mediocre and come in having won the game.

"But you know if you keep playing well the wins are going to start coming in eventually."

The former Norwich man was keen to point out that injury had played an important role in his return to the team, proving that every cloud has a silver lining.

"The main reason I got a chance was injuries, I think Belly might have been injured a while ago and that was when I got my chance.

"Hopefully I've done enough to impress the manager. I really just want to get a good run in the team until the end of the season.

"I played in midfield for a few years when I was at Norwich so I'm pretty comfortable both there and up front.

"I do enjoy playing up front but obviously I haven't been getting many runs in the team and now the manager sees me as more of a midfielder which is fine as I'm just happy to be back in the squad."

Despite an improvement in recent performances McVeigh knows the team still have a difficult task ahead of them.

"Personally I just want to get as many games as possible, but as a team we are all working hard to get as many points as we can.

"The table doesn't lie so it's going to be a mammoth task to try and get out the relegation zone, but until it is actually mathematically impossible to do so we will not give up.

"Anything can happen. It's happened before; a lot of teams have got out of worse situations."

And although a relegation battle was far from McVeigh's mind when he signed for Luton last summer he's determined to do everything he can to help them
in the future.

"I think every person wants to play as high up the league as possible and when I joined Luton the last thing on my mind was that we were going to get relegated to League Two but you have to be realistic.

"I have another year left on my contract and so unless I'm told different I will be here next year and will help to get the club back up again whether that's into the Championship or into League One.

"You just have to deal with the situation your in and try and make the most of it."
