Town youngsters win again

Two second half goals secured the Hatters Under-18s’ place in the quarter-finals of the Youth Alliance League Cup with a 2-0 victory over Dagenham & Redbridge at Ely Way.

Alex Atkinson and Freddie Hinds found the target to make it 10 wins in 11 matches in all competition for the Town youngsters, who stay unbeaten this season.

The Hatters had the better of the chances in the first half and were denied the lead when Tyreeq Bakinson’s back-post effort was saved brilliantly by the Daggers’ keeper.

However, the Town gradually wore down the visitors and 20 minutes into the second half Hinds was fouled in the box and Atkinson slotted home the resultant penalty.

In front, the Hatters continued to dominate in search of a second, and that came on 80 minutes when Hinds raced through, beat the Daggers centre-half and finished well.

A pleased Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “It took us time to wear them down and I knew it would a much tougher match than when we faced them two weeks ago [that the Town won 4-0].

“Defensively we were sound, that was our eighth clean sheet in 11 matches, but I would like us to be more clinical.

“We made a few changes too and I thought we coped well with that.”

Town: Gooch, Atkinson, Hinds (sub Verney 85), McGhan-George, Famewo, McJannett, Cotter, Bakinson, Snelus (sub Dasilva 67), Bean (sub Bean 77), Justin.
