UNDER-18s MAKE IT SIX GAMES UNBEATEN

Town youngsters hold Posh to point

The Hatters Under-18s made it six games unbeaten in the Youth Alliance after fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw at Peterborough United this afternoon.

Paul Driver’s youngsters went into the match buoyed by Saturday’s 4-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, but against a strong Posh side the Town fell behind mid-way through the second half.

But the Town kept going and they were rewarded for their persistence six minutes from time when Frankie Musonda poked the ball between the Posh goalkeeper’s legs to earn the Hatters a point.

A happy Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “It was a scrappy, bitty game but the boys dug in, kept going and their hard work paid off in the end which is one the big positives.”

The Town were unfortunate not be awarded a penalty in an even first half when James Justin was fouled five yards inside the box – only for the officials to award a free-kick.

But Craig King kept Posh out with a fine save, while United also hit the post, but the game finished all square in the match which was rearranged after the original match was abandoned in September following an injury to Luke Trotman.

Driver added: “That point has made it six games unbeaten and I’m proud of the lads’ battling qualities against a good Peterborough side. We could have easily folded but we showed a different side to our game today – and that grit and determination helped us earn a deserved point.”

The Town Under-18s play their last game of 2014 on Saturday when they travel to Gillingham.
