Point for youngsters

Injury-hit Town Under-18s earned a creditable a 1-1 draw with Northampton in the Youth Alliance on Saturday morning.

With defender Luke Trotman watching on following his injury last weekend, Paul Driver’s young squad were missing five regulars through injury and the entire back four were left-footers.

The Town started well, Tuki Tayali’s early header was kept out – and it was against the run of play that Northampton took the lead when a header flew past Craig King.

However, as half-time approached the Hatters upped the ante and levelled matters from the penalty spot courtesy of Leeroy Maguraushe.

After the break the Town kept the ball well and almost won all three points when Geo Craig’s effort, which seemed destined for the top corner, was clawed out by the Cobbers keeper and the points were shared.

A pleased Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “Given the week we’ve have, with Luke’s injury and the others that have followed, I am delighted with the lads’ performance.

“We had several under-16s in the squad and one of those started so it was great for them to be involved at such an early stage of the season.

“It’s not been an easy seven days but the performance was hugely encouraging and, if I’m being honest I’m really chuffed with the result.”

Town: King; Maguraushe, Perry, Hawkes, McJannett; McGhan-George, Galliford, Justin, Craig (sub Murray 70), Tayali, Amadi (sub Amu 70). Subs not used: Gooch, Hankins, Brown.
