Five wins out of six now for Youth Team

The Hatters Under-18s continued their fine start to the new season with an excellent 2-0 victory at Bristol Rovers in the Youth Alliance League Cup on Tuesday afternoon.

Paul Driver’s side saw their 100 per cent record in the league ended with a 1-1 draw with Gillingham on Saturday, but second half goals from George Murray and Kavan Cotter got the Town youngsters back to winning ways.

Cotter and Tyreeq Bakinson came closest to opening the deadlock in the first half as the Hatters youngsters dominated.

After a goalless first half, the Town continued to press after the restart and on the hour Murray latched onto a throughball to steer the ball past the Rovers’ keeper to put his side in front.

Cotter came close to make it 2-0 when his header was cleared off the line but the same player wasn’t to be denied five minutes from time when he converted James Verney’s cross at the back post to seal the win.

A delighted Driver told lutontown.co.uk: “All the boys were disappointed that they didn’t win on Saturday but they’ve taken on board what was said afterwards and really put that to good use today.

“It was an excellent team performance against a really good Bristol side – a true away, cup performance that they can be really happy with.

“With the three-hour coach journey the preparation was a little different to what the boys are used to so that’s another positive.”

The Under-18s, like the first team, are in action away to Cambridge United on Saturday in the Youth Alliance.

Team: Gooch; Justin, McJannet, Musonda, Famewo; McGhan-George, Cotter, Bakinson, Atkinson; Murray, Hinds (sub Verney 70). Subs not used: Jones, Bean, Read, Mead.
