Town snap up QPR right-back for 28 days

The Hatters have signed Queens Park Rangers defender Michael Harriman on a 28-day emergency loan.

The 21-year-old right-back is a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international who spent last season on-loan at Gillingham, playing 38 of the Gills’ 46 matches in League 1.

Harriman made his debut for Rangers in 2011 in a League Cup tie and has also enjoyed experience out on loan with Wycombe Wanderers the season before last.

Boss John Still said: “Our problems in the right-back position have been well documented with both Paul Connolly and Curtley Williams unavailable through injury.

“Michael is an excellent player and was a fantastic performer in League 1 last season with Gillingham. He might only be 21 but he has experience of playing a full season in the division above.”

Harriman added: “I’m really happy to have joined Luton. It’s a great club who did really well last season and you only need to take one look at their attendances this season to know just how big the club is. If selected I’ll be looking forward to Saturday.”

Both clubs have agreed the loan, which is subject to approval from the football authorities, and will begin on Friday, 10th October.

Michael will go straight into the Town squad to face Southend on Saturday. He has been allocated squad number 22.

Further reaction to follow.
