Town net six-figure fee for last season's leading goalscoer

Striker Mark Cullen has left Kenilworth Road and signed for League 1 club Blackpool.

Cullen, 23, departs after two season in Hatters colours. The frontman, who joined from Hull in the summer of 2013, scored 24 times in 83 appearances in Luton colours – including 14 last season.

He helped the Town to lift the Conference title with 10 goals in his debut season, but swaps Bedfordshire for a two-year deal at Bloomfield Road with everybody’s best wishes.

Hatters boss John Still told lutontown.co.uk: “Mark was part of our squad that got us promoted back to the Football League – that is something we’ll never forget – and last season he was our leading goalscorer.

“However, Mark made it obvious that he wanted to move back up north to be closer to his home.

“We couldn’t agree something last season but we’ve looked into this summer and we’re happy that he’s agreed a switch to Blackpool.

“We’re comfortable with the deal that we’ve done – it could also benefit ourselves substantially in the long-term should Mark move on again, but we wish him and his family all the best.

“His contribution to this club’s fortunes should not be ignore and I’d like to thank him for his efforts and goals which got us out of the Conference and to the within a place of the Play-Offs in two years.”

The Hatters have received an initial £180,000, plus add-ons. With an added sell-on clause included in the terms of the deal, should Cullen leave the Tangerines the Hatters could net up to double the original fee.
