Town manager John Still has completed his second deal of the day with the signing of Northern Ireland international winger Paddy McCourt on a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old has enjoyed a fine career to date following spells in England, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, who he has been capped 14 times for and scored twice.

McCourt began his career in England with Rochdale, playing almost 100 times before he moved to Shamrock Rovers in 2005.

After seven goals in 17 games he moved to hometown club Derry City where he spent two-and-a-half years and scored five times in 61 matches. During that time he helped City lift the FAI Cup in 2006 and the League of Ireland Cup in 2005, 2006 and 2007. In 2005 he was named the PFA of Ireland’s Young Player of the Year.

His silky skills soon alerted the attention of Premier League clubs, but in 2008 McCourt chose to sign for Celtic. He enjoyed success at Parkhead, and he contributed significantly to the Bhoys’ Scottish Premier League title successes of 2012 and 2013. He also picked up two Scottish Cup winners’ medals in 2011 and 2013.

However after 10 goals in 89 games for Celtic, he moved to Barnsley on a free in August 2013 where he spent a season playing in the Championship.

After one season entertaining the Oakwell faithful, McCourt joined Brighton but was restricted to just 10 substitute appearances in the Championship following Sami Hyppia dismissal. At the end of the campaign he was sent on loan to Notts County where he netted once in 12 appearances.
