Town and Central Bedfordshire College's partnership expands to Dunstable

The Club are delighted to announce the expansion of their Football and Education scheme with Central Bedfordshire College by reaching an agreement that all coaching at the Creasey Park facility in Dunstable is to be delivered directly by the Hatters coaching staff.

The scheme offers a range of vocational qualifications and coaching badges alongside regular training and games throughout the season. The Dunstable scheme will now compliment the club’s scheme at Baldock to provide training and football for over 120 young footballers aged between 16 and 18.

Wayne Turner, the Hatters Head of Youth told lutontown.co.uk: “All Football League clubs are restricted in the number of scholarships they can offer every season. Our education schemes allow us to keep a much larger pool of local talent where we can monitor progress and offer genuine future pathways into the professional game.

“The Club will be entering into the Football League’s new Under-21 league, and as a youth department, our aim is to fill that squad, along with our Under-18 youth team squad, with as many local young professionals as possible. The Under-16 to Under-18 age group is vital in the development chain if we are to succeed in this aim.”

David Burns, Head of Sport at Central Bedfordshire College said: “This is another great development for the sports department at Central Bedfordshire College which keeps moving us even more to the forefront of sport and education in the region.

“The sports department was recently awarded a good Ofsted grade in which the sport inspector said ‘Practical football coaching sessions are of a high quality and reflect good professional practice’ and ‘Links with professional football clubs expose students to the standards and expectations of high performance centres and enable them to train to a high standard.’

“Alongside the exceptional football training and competitive fixtures delivered by the Luton Town coaching staff, we provide students with an innovative and unique package of career specific education programmes in coaching, fitness, sports massage and treatment of injuries, and sports studies where learners achieve the industry standard qualifications required for direct entry into work or University.”

Trials for the upcoming college year are to be held on Friday morning on the 4th July at Creasey Park Community Stadium between 10am-1pm. To book a place please contact Colin Sharpe via email csharpe@centralbeds.ac.uk.
