Comfortable cup win for Town dev squad

A strong Town development squad earned a 5-2 League Cup win over Gillingham at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday afternoon.

First team coach Hakan Hayrettin gave starts to a host of senior players. Paul Benson, Andy Parry, Alex Lacey, Matt Robinson and Luke Guttridge all played 90 minutes, whilst Alex Lawless, Nathan Doyle and Jonathan Smith got 63 minutes under their belts before being substituted.

Given the strength of the team compared to an inexperienced Gills side, the Hatters ran out comfortable winners. Charlie Walker scored two well-taken goals in the first half with Smith also target, before Benson bagged a brace midway through the second period in between two Gillingham goals.

Full report to follow.

TOWN: Justham, Robinson, Brown, Lacey, Parry; Guttridge, Lawless (sub Galliford 63), Doyle (sub Stevenson 63), Smith (sub Hawkes 63); Benson, Walker. Subs not used: King, Amadi.
