Town say goodbye to Andre Gray who leaves for the Championship

The Hatters can confirm that striker Andre Gray has joined Championship club Brentford for an undisclosed fee.

The frontman, who scored 30 goals for the Town last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Griffin Park club.

Gray arrived at Kenilworth Road in March 2012 from Hinckley United and scored on his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Grimsby. He went onto score seven goals at the end of the 2011/12 campaign, including the opening goal in the Wembley Play-Off final against York.

In his first full season, Gray struck 20 times, but it was during the last campaign that the Wolverhampton-born striker shot to prominence with 30 goals as the Hatters stormed to the Conference title. In total Gray netted 57 goals in 111 games in Luton colours.

Gray, who had a year left on his contract at Kenilworth Road, joins a Brentford side who won promotion from League 1 last season, but should Gray leave the Bees the Town will be entitled to a healthy sell-on fee.

Town manager John Still told lutontown.co.uk: "We are naturally disappointed to lose Andre but it goes without saying that we wish him well at Brentford. With only a year left on his contract, it was either a case of him extending with us or him moving on. It is a great move for him and I am confident that he will go on and enjoy huge success at Griffin Park."

Managing director Gary Sweet added: "It is always a shame to see a successful and popular player depart Kenilworth Road, but Andre's development has been rapid since joining us and it's good for us to show that we won't hold players back if the timing and deal is right for all parties.

"I can also confirm that the income received will be re-invested into players and training facilities over the next two years to ensure this event strengthens us."

Everyone at Kenilworth Road would like to wish Andre all the very best in his future endeavours.
