Kenny card display shows supporters' pride in our Town

With the dust settling on a night of pure drama at Kenilworth Road, now seems as good a time as any to reflect on the incredible response of the Luton Town supporters to what ended as the 2016-17 finalé.

Shortly after our play-off place was confirmed, we were contacted by a group of supporters who wanted to put on a card display in the Kenilworth Road end. The idea was a good one. To demonstrate the supporters’ solidarity – not just with the team, but with the Club as a whole.

As a Club, we were happy to support the gesture, which held added significance within the message “This is our Town”.

It’s almost exactly one year to the day since the Club opened the doors on an exhibition which would give the public their first glimpse of the plans for a game-changing new stadium at Power Court, and retail development adjacent to Junction 10 of the M1 – Newlands Park.

Many of you will have visited the exhibition, which took place across three venues in Luton over the course of 8 days (Click here to see a behind the scenes video of the exhibition)

Many thousands of people came to see the plans for themselves while it was open, meeting with Club and project team executives and sharing their hopes and dreams for the future of Luton Town FC, and the town of Luton as whole.

The response to the plans from supporters, and from the general population of Luton was massively supportive. Just as importantly, it gave those people with their reservations an opportunity to discuss them with the team. On most occasions, people who came in with questions, left satisfied with the answers.

The positivity around the plans for Power Court, and for Newlands Park was borne out by the responses which were sent to the Council during their public consultation period, with nearly 11,000 individual pieces of overwhelmingly positive feedback submitted.

We’re all waiting patiently for the Council’s response to the applications, while they (rightly) take their time to consider them in detail.

During the exhibition promotion campaign the hashtag #thisisourtown was used to help engage with the public and supporters. It’s no secret that Luton has had more than its fair share of bad press over the years. But the response to the exhibitions, and in support of the application – and again in the stadium from supporters last night and throughout the season – goes to show what Luton is really all about.

It’s a town of passionate people, who care deeply for their neighbours, their town, their club and its future.

We’re proud to be part of that. And so should you be.
