YOUTH ALLIANCE FINAL: BOURNEMOUTH V LUTON TOWN

The Hatters match against the Cherries will kick-off at 7:30pm

Town youth team boss Paul Driver hopes his side can retain their Youth Alliance Cup title as they take on Bournemouth in the final tomorrow at the Vitality Stadium.

The Hatters beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1 in the final of the competition last season and Driver is hopeful that his team can keep hold of the Cup.

He said: “We are all looking forward to the match. We have got a full-strength squad to choose from. It’ll be an excellent test for the lads on a Premier League pitch against a Premier League opposition.

“It makes it a lot more of an appetising fixture given that the teams are playing on the pitch at the Vitality Stadium.

“We are obviously very keen to retain it, so we will be putting the strongest side out that we possibly can.”

The youth team manager was also full of praise for his side, who had to overcome tough opponents in order to reach this stage.

“We have had to beat Swindon Town, Stevenage and Plymouth Argyle to get to here” Driver said.

It’s been a difficult route to the final, all three of those teams made the top EFL Merit League. Stevenage was probably the best performance of the season and then we had the nail biting penalty shoot-out against Plymouth.”

Driver has seen a lot of young players at the club progress to the youth team this season, something he has been really enthralled by.

“The fact that it’s a young team has really impressed me,” he continued. “We have only lost one in our last 11 games.

“We are starting to be a lot more competitive, so even when the young ones come in, we are starting to be a lot more competitive and obviously we have got the older lads who were part of the team that won this competition last season.”

For any fans travelling to watch the youth team in action, entry into the Vitality Stadium is free.
