The Hatters twice hit the woodwork but slipped to their second defeat in four games after a goal in each half enabled Grimsby to leapfrog them in the Blue Square Bet Premier. In front of the live television cameras - the game was the first to be screened live on Premier Sports TV - the Town began the brighter of the two sides and Kevin Gallen came close to giving them the lead when volleying over on seven minutes. A minute later the Hatters hit the woodwork for the first time when Adam Murray hit the crossbar with a rasping shot from 25 yards. But while the Town were dominating, Grimsby looked dangerous on the counter, and against the run of play, the hosts had the lead on the half-hour mark after being awarded a contentious penalty. Darren Kempson's header from a right-wing corner was handled by Shane Blackett, jumping up to head the ball, and after referee Simpson signalled for the spot-kick, home striker Alan Connell slammed from 12 yards. The Hatters responded well and Murray, clearly in the mood for a goal, saw a shot blocked on 35 minute. As the Town continued to press, Claude Gnakpa leapt to head a Murray corner from the right but the Frenchman saw his effort cleared off the line by Mark Hudson in first half injury time. Again, just like in the first half, the Town started well, and after Matthew Barnes-Homer blazed over a minute into the second period, the striker was denied by the foot of the post on 54 minutes after he had robbed Kempson of the ball and bared down on the Mariners' goal. After being let off the hook Neil Woods' side upped the ante and they made the game safe with 19 minutes left when a Lewis Goburn corner from the left was headed in by Mickey Cummins. That knocked the stuffing out of the Hatters but they continued to battle but despite half chances from Adam Newton and debutant Taiwo Atieno the hosts held on to record all three points. For minute-by-minute analysis see below. Live from Blundell Park Grimsby Town 2 (Connell 30 (pen), Cummins 71) Luton Town 0 Latest score - click refresh or hit F5 for updates FULL-TIME GRIMSBY TOWN 2-0 LUTON TOWN 90 mins - Four added minute for the Town try and get two goals. 87 mins - Still two-zip to the hosts and the Hatters have three minutes to try and salvage something from this. A tall order. 84 mins - Two goals down but not deserved. Very frustrating. 80 mins - Chance for the debutant as he heads a corner from the left into the arms of O'Donnell at the back stick. 78 mins On comes Atieno for Gnakpa as the Hatters make their third and final change. 77 mins - Half a sniff for the Hatters as Newton fires over from the edge of the area after good hold up play from Barnes-Homer. 73 mins - More Grimsby pressure as Peacock turn sharply in the box but sees a shot at the near post deflected behind by Kroca that Tyler is able to claw out of the air. 71 mins   MARINERS 2-0 Hatters - Neil Woods' side are on getting back into this and they've doubled their lead as Goburn corner is met at the back-post by the head of Cummins who loops a header into the top corner of the net. Oh dear. 60 mins Second change in four minutes for the Town as Crow replaces Gallen. 58 mins - Hearts in mouths time for the Hatters as Connell glances a header just wide of the target. 56 mins  First change for the Town as Besta replaces Keane. 55 mins - 3,822 which includes 348 from Bedfordshire. Excellent support. 54 mins - Great chance for 1-1 as MBH beats Kempson, bares down on goal but hits a shot straight at the post. Unbelievable. That's twice the Town have hit the woodwork. 53 mins - Blackett hauled down in the penalty area but referee Simpson isn't interested. No pen. 50 mins - Pretty much all the Town at the start of this half but O'Donnell has yet to be tested. Encourgaging stuff though from Money's men. 46 mins - And we're off again as the Mariners kick-off. The Town are now kicking towards their support behind the goal and the they come close 30 seconds into the second period when MBH blasts over a shot from 20 yards after good work from Newton. Bright start to this second half for the visitors. HALF-TIME  GRIMSBY TOWN 1-0 LUTON TOWN - All the Town but they find themselves behind. Check back in the 15 for all the updates. 45 mins + 1 - Oh unlucky as Gnakpa sees a header cleared off the line by Hudson. 40 mins - Not happening, or falling for for the Town and we've got two added minutes to play at the end of the first half. 37 mins - More Hatters pressure, they don't deserve to be behind at the minute as firstly a MBH cross aimed for Gallen is cleared before a goalmouth melee ensues and the ball doesn't drop kindly for Blackett, Gallen and Kroca. 35 mins - Back come the Town and Murray again fancies his chances from range as he whacks a shot from 20 yards that is well blocked by Hudson after good play down the left from Gallen and Barnes-Homer. 30 mins  GOAL! MARINERS 1-0 Hatters - Blackett is harshly adjudged to have handled a header from Kempson following a right-wing corner and refereee Simpson awards a spot-kick which Connell slams past Tyler who dived the right way. Against the run of play. 29 mins - PENALTY TO GRIMSBY 27 mins - Chance for Grimbsy as they race up the other end and Connell forces Tyler into action for the first time when blocking the striker's shot with his legs at his near post. 26 mins - A real dirth of chances so far but the Hatters are still enjoying the better of the play and they almost take the lead when fantastic wing play from Gnakpa sets up Gallen who sees a shot well saved by O'Donnell. 15 mins - Keith Keane goes down, you know it's serious when he grimaces, and it looks as though Pavel Besta is going to replace him but he is told to warm-up and see if Keane can cover. It looks as though he is though. Good news. 13 mins - Grimsby look dangerous on the counter but the Town are defending well against the Mariners' threat. Then a long throw from Newton causes confusion in the home penalty area but Gallen, Gnakpa and MBH can't turn it home. 8 mins - Well and truly all the Town as they dominate and Murray goes even closer to breaking the deadlock as he lets fly from 25 yards with a left-foot shot that cannons off the crossbar. That was unlucky. Top effort, great hit. 7 mins - It's all the Hatters so far and they're well on top. Keane robs Wood down the Grimsby left and whips in a super cross for Gallen who gets ahead of his marker to volley just over the bar via deflection. Great all round play. 6 mins - Half a chance for the Town as Gallen sees a free-kick smothered by O'Donnell after Gnakpa had been fouled on the edge of the area. 3 mins - Bright start for the Hatters here, MBH is unlucky when latching onto a long ball from defence with the ball bobbling away. 1 min  And we're off, as the Town get us underway, kicking towards the home end. Gnakpa is playing down the right with Newton down the left. 17:12 HERE THEY COME Out come the two sides onto the pitch, the Town are in orange while the Mariners are in their traditional black and white striped shirts. 17:08 TOWN TRAVELLERS There's a very good turnout of Hatters fans inside Blundell Park this afternoon. Considering the game is on television it's a great effort. Around 350-400 I guess. 17:05 JOB JUGGLING Your writer today is standing in as a co-commentator on Hatters Player, BBC 3CR and DiverseFM this afternoon. Co-commentating plus typing your live updates. Right PLAICE, wrong time would have been better, or should that be batter? Sorry. No, really. 16:26 ED LINES No team news yet but Ed Asafu-Adjaye is out on the impressive Blundell Park pitch. Goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington is sporting sky blue shorts. Is that a sign that he might be playing? Who knows. 16:10 TASTY Right, haddock and chips eaten and we're all set-up in the press box ready for this evening's game. Stay tuned for team news. 14:50 RIGHT PLACE, WRONG TIME Good afternoon and welcome loyal followers of our live text commentary updates to Yep, it's 3pm and you are in the right place. Unfortunately if you're logging on expecting me to begin describing the Town's game at Bliundell Park you're two hours and 15 minutes early! If it has escaped your attention - and we have tried our utmost to make you aware - our Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Humberside has been chosen for live television coverage by Premier Sports TV. Therefore we're kicking off at 5.15pm and not the usual 3pm. Yes it feels a little strange leaving later than usual to travel to Cleethorpes and yes it is exciting to think the Hatters are being broadcast live across the nation and beyond. In recent times televised games involving the Town have been some real corkers. Take the last time for example. Cast (yes - I think that is the first fish /Grimsby related pun of the afternoon by the way - and not the last either) your minds back to April 2009. Luton Town 3-2 Scunthorpe United. That was a bit special wasn't it? More of the same this afternoon against Neil Woods' Grimsby, relegated from the Football League last season, would be a welcome bonus especially as the Town look to bounce back from a run of three games that has yielded two points. Take away the bad day at the office against Tamworth and performances from Richard Money's men have been very impressive. Will normal service be resumed this afternoon in front of the television cameras? It's going to be tough, especially in this corner of North East Lincolnshire where the Hatters don't tend to return victorious. A Rory Allen inspired victory back in 1998 is the best I can come up with in recent times (recent, he says, 12 years ago). Your writer's first experience of Blundell Park was a 7-1 defeat in the FA Cup third round in 1996. Trips to Grimsby have since always since held a lot of trepidation but on the plus side the fish and chips are always good. Well, whatever happens at the Blundell Park this evening, and throughout the season, your official website will have everything covered: every step of the way. If you can't make the match then we'll have all the goals and incidents as it happens live with the usual news in the run-up to kick-off with team line-ups and plenty of chat as your official website has, as ever, the usual updates keeping you bang up-to-date with all the action - and in a number of ways. There's none of those boring ball-by-ball "defensive thrown-in taken by Luton left-back" updates as we continue to and bring you an updated and detailed text commentary. This is a great way to keep in touch and has been popular to those supporters not able to get to a computer or a radio as the service is also available and is updated live on our WAP site. On Hatters Player you all have access to our live commentary. Remember, Player is available as ever which means you all have access to our live commentary. If you haven't heard it yet then where you have been? It's still brought to you by Simon "Statto" Pitts but he's got company this time! The DiverseFM team have collaborated with BBC Three Counties radio and the Club to bring you the Luton Town Show. Following the final whistle we'll have all the reaction from the men that matter this after, bringing you exclusive video content from Richard Money and from the dressing room. We'll have plenty of content to keep you interested as we'll have all of the post-match reaction from Richard as well as match action from Gareth Owen to follow after the final whistle. Be sure to check out - our online image library. Like a picture you see and fancy having that on a mug? Well, fancy no more - with Hatters Pics it's a reality. Remember, we want you to get in touch. Join the updates and get in touch. Email and we'll pick the best comments to go live on the site during our live updates. Don't forget we're also on twitter and Facebook so feel free to interact with your fellow fans online. Enjoy the game. COYH!
